The happy recipient of the Helensville District Health Trust's annual Kaipara College scholarship says she's eyeing up a career as a paediatrician.
Helensville District Health Trust Chairperson Rory MaGillycuddy proudly presented the $2000 scholarship to Kaipara College's Brooke Kelly at the school's recent Senior Prizegiving Ceremony.
For the last seven years, the Health Trust has offered the scholarship to a Kaipara College student who is going on to further their studies in health and wellbeing.
Students apply for the scholarship with the recipient chosen after an interview with Health Trust representatives.
Trustee Erica McKenzie said Brooke was an obvious winner because of her "clear academic plan for studying medicine, awareness of rural health issues and the strong leadership she has shown by sharing her knowledge and skills with others."
High-achieving Brooke went home from the Prizegiving Ceremony with her arms laden with silverware. She came first in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics with Statistics, and also received the faculty cups for Science, Maths and the Proxime Accessit Cup (runner-up to Dux).
Brooke says she is "really honoured to have received this award and am very thankful that the Trust believes in my future as a doctor to award me the scholarship."
Brooke hopes to remain living at home in Helensville while studying at Auckland University.
