The Helensville District Health Trust provides a range of services to the South Kaipara community. The Health Campus situated in central Helensville is home to a host of health related services including:
Off campus the Trust operates Te Whare Oranga ō Parakai in central Parakai.
Our three core areas of service to the community are detailed below:
The first initiative launched in 1989 by the Helensville District Health Trust, the Helensville Birthing Centre is a community facility offering birthing and post-natal care. The Centre provides for and enables rest, recovery and the establishment of breastfeeding in the immediate post-natal period. Available for families who choose to give birth in a low-tech environment, it is renowned nationally as the best facility of its kind in New Zealand. Available 24/7, you can find out more about the Birthing Centre at www.birthcentre.co.nz
The Kaipara Medical Centre has always been an integral part of our community. In 2013 an opportunity arose for the Medical Centre to become part of the Helensville District Health Trust via an innovative part community ownership model. This model has seen the Centre go from strength to strength with a strong core team of doctors and nurses who work to provide our community with a comprehensive range of best practice health services. In 2013 the Parakai Licensing Trust generously gifted the former Parakai Tavern to the Helensville District Health Trust for the good of the community. The site was renamed ‘Te Whare Oranga ō Parakai’ (the House of Wellbeing) and developed under the guidance of a steering committee and in partnership with Unitec to become a centre for health, education and economic opportunities for all of South Kaipara. Integral to the project is the South Kaipara Food Revolution. More info at www.thrivekaipara.org.nz
